I have BitComet V0.56 installed.  When updating it to V 0.70, it just refused to do so.  It is better to complete all download first.  Then uninstall the old version of BitComet, it will allow you to install the new version.  Sometimes it still won't let you override the old version, you'll need a complete cleanup.  To perform a clean uninstall before installing the new version.  Instructions as below:

Start by Removing BitComet using its own uninstall utility.

Then
1)
a) Open 'My Computer', then your C: drive, then the 'Program Files' folder, and the 'BitComet' folder.  Delete the 'BitComet' folder.  Be careful, everything in this folder will be deleted.  If you have any downloaded files to be retained, you must copy it to somewhere safe.

2).  Registry Edit Instructions:

a) Click the "Start" menu -->Select "Run"-->Type: regedit.  Click Ok

b) Open the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER"  folder --->Open the "Software" folder --->Select the "BitComet" folder.  Right-click on it and delete it.

c) Open the "HKEY-LOCAL_MACHINE" folder---> Open the "Software" folder--->Select the "BitComet" folder, then right-click on it and delete it.  If there is no a "BitComet" folder, don't worry about it.  Just skip to the next step.

3). Reboot your computer (stops services so registry can be written correctly).

4).  Re-install the new BitComet software.


The whole procedure is a bit complicated, but it makes certain no clash between files of old and new versions.
