problem : I bought my first laptop yesterday and I have no idea how to connect it to Internet.

Here's my situation: I have a modem and a wired router(SMCBR14UP) down in the basement and it's connected to 3 computers, so the router has only one slot left. I would like to keep this router because I need the print server thing.

What is the cheapest way to access Internet from my laptop? Do I have to buy a wireless router in order to do so?? If I do have to buy a wireless router, where can I find the best deal in Toronto?

Any help would be appreciated!!!

ps. here are the specs for my laptop in case it matteres:

HP Pavillion DV6810US
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60
WLAN 802.11bg ML+B MOW

the cheapest way is using network cable connect to the laptop network jack.

If you need the cheapest way for wireless connection, then you need a wireless access point and connect to the router.

ultraegg, I was always confused.  So an Access Point is kind of like an extention of an existing router?  In order to "connect to the existing router", just plug into one of the ports?

So when you configure the wireless connection (SSID..etc.), you log in to the access point config page using whatever the local IP assigned to it?

Thanks for helping!! I have a question tho, what's the main differences b/w an access point and a wireless router? I heard that you can also connect the wireless router to the existing wired router, does it function the exact same way, or is it much easier to set up an access point?
