And you are sure there is no chinese in the file name and the folder name, right?

Yeah, I was going to suggest you to try it with avisynth. If you can play the file with avisynth, then use it to frameserve, if not, avisynth sometimes will give you a more detail error status. Let us know.

RealPlayer is a pain in the neck in many ways, it might have caused the conflicting issues with some programs...Not sure

Yeah, I agree!  I have not used or installed Real Player for a long time!  Always just installed the right codec and then use Media Player Classic or simply Windows Media Player.

Hi mickGoUp, I did not know any free file host site. If you can suggest one, i will put it there. I don't mean the file doesnot have chinese character. I only means I am using English version of window system, not chinese window system. In other words, I need to download the chinese fonts and active the translations process in order to see chinese.

Agelessoldman has a page talking about avisyth, I will try it too. I still think it should not be that hard if I did not ask for high quality of video.

I am with meeque and I use dvdsanta (http://www.dvdsanta.com/), it works great but it takes a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time to convert.

I tried a 1.2G rmvb file last night and it took me 3 hours to finish the job.  Although it takes long, at the end I am able to watch the DVD disc on my regular DVD player on the regular TV.  Worth the try about all your troubles I read.

DVDSanta is pretty much for newbies and for those who don't want to bother to learn, as long as it takes care of the job.

I had recommended it to people few years ago where most everyone was trying to find the best softwares to convert those rm file to be able to watch on TV.

It actually worked quite well when in those early days the compression skills of rm files was lousy and most of the times many encoders have problems reading those files. It is still a decent program for rmvb conversions, but it has its short-comings. It does not have a frame resizer even in the latest version, I think it is V4.5? Videos with subtitles will be cut off in many scenerios. And just like Winavi, no menus can be created.

As far as taking up to 3 hours to encode a 1.2g rm files, I wouldn't be surprised. It's the duration of the video, not size that determines how long for the encoding process. For me, I'm extremely happy if all my conversions are done in real time(1:1, e.g. 45min show=45 min encodes).
