ECP3086 Multimedia Technology and Applications
Assignment
A. Assignment Task
In a group comprising of 4 students maximum, you are required to hand in your assignment by fulfilling the requirements below:
1. Create and design a website for a company of your choice (for example travel agency, IT company, computer vendor etc).
2. Shoot your own video, record your own voice, and integrate them into the website.
B. Structure of the Multimedia Piece
1. There should be five elements to the piece: the website, the video, an accompanying soundtrack, a spoken narration/speech and a CD cover. The video, soundtrack, and spoken speech should run simultaneously: as the video plays so will the soundtrack and the narration/speech.
2. Video:
The video track may be motion video, animation, sequenced stills or any combination of the above. Try to make use of visual effects and film language to communicate the piece and support the concepts and feelings. You could edit your video clip and combine your soundtrack with tools like Adobe Premiere, Ulead software etc.
3. Soundtrack:
The soundtrack which consists of digital non-speech audio and Foley Art, should be able to support the piece in communicating the overall feel and mood of the piece. Foley Art is the use of non-musical sounds to create ambience and credibility, and to draw attention to important events. For example, it is required to allow us to hear footsteps, to make punches audible and to make plastic swords sound real. Cubasis or Adobe Audition should help you to manipulate and combine your audio resources.
4. Narration/speech:
Every member of the group needs to record his/her voice introducing the advertised product or service.
5. CD Cover:
You should print the title of your project, name, student ID, and lecture group for each of the group member on your CD Cover. Attractive CD cover will be given bonus marks.
C. General Points
1. You should attempt to create the multimedia piece yourself. However, you may include some found material (such as non-speech audio file), though you must acknowledge all your sources in documentation. Sources of material must be referenced. This includes sound and image assets.
2. You are encouraged to use as many types of relevant multimedia components as possible. You are free to choose any software to create your multimedia piece. However, the final product must be able to run with Microsoft Media Player.
3. Your work must last for at least two minutes and not more than five minutes.
4. Multimedia files must be handed in on a CD-R. Please check to ensure it runs correctly. Corrupted file will not be given ANY mark. You must clearly label the final product as “Final – Title of your product” and store all the resources file in the folder called “Resources” such as your recorded narration/speech and your found material.
5. You must not use pornographic or illegal source materials.
