As i remember, the mini USB on Chromecast is for power, the other side of Chromecast is HDMI which plug into the TV.  So...i said...it doesn't need USB port

but if I understand correctly, you can play yt video on your computer then sync to your tv....as long as your tv is wi-fi+able.....

I don't think it's that simple unless there's some technology I haven't learned about.  you mean the new smart tv would register itself as a server on the network, and computer can stream video to it?  what kind of program do they use on computer?   chromecast is kind of working that way, so is apple tv, which acts as a server, and the client (an app on ipad/iphone, chrome on desktop, app on desktop etc.) can connect to it then stream video to it.

I didn't test on netfix....but yt and youku works that way...

oh i see!  I thought you were talking about playing local files.  For YT and Netflix, perhaps my TV is too old.. can't do that.

but yeah.. like I said. there are so many options out there now.  chromecast seems to be quite good for that price, but if one already have setup to do what needs to be done, I don't see the point of spending even another $20 for one more gadget.
