Try just using the new DDR Ram first.  If it works well and you are certain that the old one has no problem, then it would be the compatibility problem.  But if the computer works in an awkward manner, the problem would be the new RAM you bought.  Perhaps it's time to replace the computer after 3 or more years.  It's not worth to spend money on old junk.
