Generally it's up to 50% of your agi (adjusted gross income) if you donated to churches, schools, hospoitals, foundations, charitable organizations, various govt units exclusively for public services. It rarely raches that limit though since it will raise a big red flag even to 25%. For example, you earned $80000 a year, if you put $16000 (20%) on charity, you'd better prepare for being examined.
